Editorial independence
TanLab's reviews are written by TanLab and nobody else. No brand, agency, distributor or advertiser sees a review before it publishes, and none has ever been given the ability to change a score, delay a verdict or remove a criticism. If that condition is ever attached to a unit, the unit is declined and the fact is stated on air.
Where test units come from
Every review states which of these applies:
- Bought at retail. Purchased with TanLab's own money, at normal price, from a normal shop. This is the default.
- Loaned and returned. Supplied by a brand or distributor for a fixed period and sent back after testing.
- Supplied to keep. Sent by a brand and not returned. Disclosed prominently — in the video and at the top of the written review.
None of the three changes the test. The same protocol runs regardless, and a retail unit and a supplied unit are scored on the same scale.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site and in video descriptions are affiliate links, meaning TanLab may earn a small commission if you buy through them. This costs you nothing extra.
- Affiliate links are labelled where they appear.
- Commission rates play no part in scoring, ranking or which products get reviewed.
- A product that loses a comparison stays lost, even when it is the one with the better commission.
- Products that score badly still get linked, because "here's the thing I told you not to buy" is a valid reason to link.
Sponsorship
Sponsored segments may appear in videos. When they do:
- The segment is announced clearly, in the video and in the description, and marked with YouTube's paid-promotion disclosure.
- The sponsor is never the product under review in that video.
- Sponsors get airtime and nothing else — no score, no ranking, no editorial input, no advance view of the review.
- Sponsorship of one video buys no protection in any future one.
Corrections
Measurements are made by people and people get things wrong. When a TanLab test result is found to be incorrect:
- The correction is added at the top of the written review, dated, saying what changed and why.
- A pinned comment goes on the video.
- If the score changes, the original score stays visible beside the corrected one. Scores are not quietly edited.

Use of AI
Test measurements, verdicts and scores are produced by human testing — no AI-generated review, score or test result is ever published. AI tools may be used for routine production work such as transcription, subtitle drafting and copy-editing. No product is ever "reviewed" from a spec sheet, a press release or a model's summary of one.
Comparisons
Competing products in a head-to-head are chosen on price and availability, not on relationship. A brand cannot buy its way into — or out of — a comparison, and a brand that declines to supply a unit still gets compared using a retail-bought one wherever possible.
The single rule
If money could change a TanLab number, the number would be worthless — and so would the channel. So money cannot change it. Everything above is just that rule, written out.
